SILVER for the Green Transport High Jump: Recently elevated to Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and the Environment, Jim Karygiannis wasted no time in setting new Eco-Olympic records for being fast off the mark. Within days, Karygiannis was calling for support for the purchase of hybrid and energy efficient vehicles. He attempted to pull together a car summit to pursue better mileage for Canadian cars, although the car makers declined to come on the same day as environmentalists, at least Karygiannis got the ball rolling.

  • Hello Mr. Karygiannis,

    Dear Jim Karygiannis,

I am writing to thank you for your efforts to protect people of conscience from around the world who do not want to fight in illegal wars.

The motion that you tabled in the House of Common’s Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration, if implemented, would provide the means for people who do not want to commit war crimes to be able to apply for permanent residency from within Canada, be they people unwillingly conscripted into the military or soldiers who cannot cross that terrible line, especially in the name of the country.

As you know, the Quaker church as sought to protect rights of conscience for over 350 years, both for adherents to our own pacifist religion and for those who share the believe that to kill is wrong.

If this motion is implemented, it will set an international standard that will hopefully lead other countries to also take action to protect conscientious objectors to illegal wars or, at least, to allow conscientious objectors to chose alternative service instead of military conscription.

We thank you for this significant gesture, and all members of the CIMM who supported this motion.

    Sincerely,

    Jane Orion Smith General Secretary

Mr Karygiannis: my compliments to you on your fall 2007 newsletter featuring rememberance day articles.

The stories about the battle for

Most of all I appreciate the listing of the Canadians lost in Aghanistan, and the inclusion of Diplomat Glyn

    Berry

and especially carpenter Mike Frastacky is a classy gesture.

Dear Jim Karygiannis,       Re: Strongly agree with "Karygiannis grills Solerg, Nov.7th, 2007"   I read the above pamphlet some days ago.    Jim’s understanding of dual citizenship is based on the big picture of the issue while the Harper government seemed to be more narrowed down to the expenses of an incident of the evacation of Canadians from Lebanon.    Jim, I am so proud of having you as my MP who can really look after Canadians from a golbal perspective.      Joseph Waye  (resident with my whole family in Scarborough-Agincourt)

From: Richard Sent: Saturday, April 14, 2007 8:15 PM To: Jim Karygiannis Cc: Peter Mackay Subject: W-Five Travel to Mexico

Dear Jim, I recall, a few months ago, you advised members of your riding, including me, not to travel to

    Mexico

. I did not pay too much attention to that because my family, while we had a reunion in Cancun some years ago, did not plan on going to

    Mexico

in the future. Tonight, I watched W-Five, and, for the first time, I realized for the first time how important your information was. You may be in Opposition, but you are protecting your constitutents at a very basic level. I thank you for that. I wish others, such as our Foreign Minister, would be more pro-active in doing the same. Once again, thank you. And in the future, I will pay utmost attention to all your mailings.

    Dear Mr. Karygiannis,

    Vimy Memorial Service

I am writing to thank you for your role in organizing the Commemoration Service to observe the 90th anniversary of the Vimy Ridge battle in 1917. I appreciated the opportunity to be present at such an event in my own community. Earlier on Easter Monday, I watched the television coverage, as thousands of others did, of the moving ceremony at Vimy to rededicate the memorial. It was wonderful to see the veterans and our Canadian young people there together honouring the brave young men who fought long ago for our freedom. I later watched the events in

    Ottawa

at the war memorial there. While I couldn’t be present at those more high profile ceremonies, I did enjoy the ecumenical commemoration service that was presented closer to home in

    Agincourt

. It was special for me because my own grandfather, Arthur Owen Francis (1895-1976), had taken part in the battle at Vimy Ridge, as well as The Somme,

    Ypres

, and Passchendale; he was one of the fortunate survivors. It was gratifying to me as a Canadian, who was born and raised here, to see several new Canadians attend and participate in the service which honoured our brave soldiers. Hopefully, we can continue to support our young people in the military who give so much to preserve the values that all Canadians hold dear. I was also glad to see so many members of the Canadian Legion, local branch 614, in attendance and participating in the ceremony. As a retired teacher from

    Scarborough

, I really enjoyed the student art work displayed in the church hall depicting the themes of our brave young people in the military both then and now. Thank you again for this important and special occasion.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Patricia... Scarborough-Agincourt

    Dear Mr.Karygiannis,

We wish to thank the staff of your

    Scarborough

office for their extremely efficient and prompt help with the very urgent issue of getting the passport with the Canadian entry visa of Mr.Valentin, the sports partner of my daughter Ms.Ekaterina. Respectful attention to our case and great willingness to help was what we noticed right away; needless to say that the final of this story was absolute success!

Our case once again proved that we, Canadian citizens, enjoy one of the greatest privileges in the world - the real working democracy. This case also proves that the choice my wife and I made during the last elections by voting for your candidature was absolutely right: in the time of trouble we knew where to go for help!

Thank you for choosing right people to support your constituency. We wish you and your staff good luck and all the best in your and their work.

    Best regards, Yury

Jim, I have lived in Bridlewood since 1963. I am not a Liberal supporter. As a matter of fact, I can’t stand most of them. However, I do admire you for your hard work ethic on behalf of your constituents, and not being afraid to ruffle feathers within your own party. I only wish more MPs had b....

For the first time ever ( I am 65 years old) I intend to vote Liberal at the next election. Let me rephrase that I intent to vote Karygiannis at the next election. Thank you

    Dear Mr. Jim Karygiannis :

Good morning! Thank you for your great news. You have worked, together with Canadian government marvelously and contributed a lot to the constituents in our Scarborough-Agincourt. We fully support you indeed.

Until now I have nothing related to SARS. However I will continue to visit your website. Anyhow I always regard you as one of the most honorable and reliable MP.

    Have a Nice Weekend !

    Dear Jim,

My name is Nicoleta R..., George O....’s niece. I hope you remember me.You helped me with my Immigration papers so I could come to

    Canada

, and for this I will be forever thankful to you.

The first reason for writing you now is to wish you and your family a belated "Happy New Year". I hope that this year will be a good one for all of you.

The second reason is that I want to share with you that in August 2002 I started to work as a math, science and programming teacher in a private school in D..........., so I can become an accredited teacher in

    Ontario

, in a year or two.

I want to thank you again for helping me to find my way to this new, wonderful country.

    Best regards,

Dear Mr. Karygiannis, I am very happy that you are our Federal representative and I am even more pleased that my vote has helped to make this possible. Since I e-mailed you, I have been getting all my bills and I heard from
