In the past, in order to deal with the immigration application ‘backlog’, Jason Kenney has labeled refugees as ‘queue jumpers’ and stopped accepting applications for family reunification (parents and grandparents).
On March 30, 2012, the Conservative government announced Citizenship and Immigration Canada will close the files of Foreign Skilled Worker applicants who applied before February 27, 2008 and for whom an immigration officer has not made a decision based on selection criteria by March 29, 2012. This decision was made so that the longstanding backlog could be eliminated.
With this decision, Jason Kenney dashed the hopes and dreams of 300,000 applicants and their families.
Jason Kenney is punishing these Foreign Skilled Worker applicants who have waited patiently for immigration officials to review and make a decision on their applications. Jason Kenney is allowing everyone who applied after February 27, 2008 to become a ‘queue jumper’.
It is time to tell Jason Kenney and Stephen Harper that this decision is unfair to those who have waited for their turn to come to Canada. It is time to tell Jason Kenney and Stephen Harper that ‘queue jumping’ of any kind is wrong!
